Get credit for exploring your passions while serving the Earth!
Offering accredited Bachelors and Masters degrees as well as Graduate Diplomas, Gaia University opened its doors to its first students in May of 2006.
Our small cohorts begin their Orientation program in October and February of each year with an Online Orientation program. Current offerings include BSc, MSc and Graduate Diplomas in Integrative Ecosocial Design, Regenerative Enterprise Design and Development and “Open Topic” in which the student chooses their own focus based on their learning and unlearning needs and the project work with which they are engaged. Self-designed and directed projects may be focused on any topic that fits within the permaculture ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Future Care.
Potential specializations may be in any area of Sustainability/Regeneration/World Change eg. Permaculture, Ecovillage Design, Life Transitions, Natural Building, Re-localization, Peace Studies, Ecocities, Appropriate Technology, Traditional Wisdom, Eco-Health, New Economics, Midwifery, Bioregionalism, Social Communication, Integral Co-Creation, Art for Social Change, Community Leadership, Designing for Disaster, Energy Descent, Beyond Consensus, Spiral Dynamics, Sacred Geometry, Peak Oil, Sustainable Aid as well as other self-designed programs based on student interests.
Utilizing an action learning methodology, Gaia U programs begin and end with an online Orientation which lasts approximately 6 months and includes such topics as Design Skills, Project and Time Management, Building Resilient Communities, and World Views. Students are then free to do their project work anywhere in the world they choose and are supported by a team of Gaia U advisors and mentors. Project work is documented in an online portfolio available for future career or other uses.
Incorporated in 2004, as of January 2017 Gaia U has served more than 400 world changers. Its graduates are having a significant ripple effect world-wide. Cohorts consist of inspired change-makers from every part of the world. Scholarship assistance is available. You can also study in Spanish with Gaia U Latina. It is also possible to receive Gaia U accredited Diplomas in Applied Permaculture Design as well as Action for Resilience or Regenerative Enterprise. Certificate programs in Ecosocial Design or in Auto-ethnography and Learning Design are offerings for those not (yet?) ready for the Deep Dive of the longer degree programs.
